Our team met Tuesday evening to discuss further plans to accomplish our goals. A rough timeline of deadlines were mapped out to ensure success. One of things included on the timeline was to meet with Eric to discuss our final presentation. We plan to get have a rough draft of our presentation by next Monday to discuss. Further discussions were made regarding the design of the connection of the two piece frame. Mounting of the solar panel onto the frame solutions were discussed and listed. We will look further into these options and look for advice before finalizing.

Team Meeting to Review Outcomes

After a meeting with Eric and further discussion with the team, below outlines the expected goals for the rest of this semester.

  1. Abandon solar tracking portion of the project
  2. Further calculate and measure energy consumption of bogies
  3. Calculate and measure energy produced by solar panels
  4. Charging equipment: circuit diagram, calculations, organization of wiring schematic, quick disconnects, revise wire sizing according to NEMA standards for safety
  5. Redesign framework using ribs made from prebent aluminum bars produced by the manufacturing team and box frame made from aluminum stock similar to the track.
  6. Design detachable panel to mount charging equipment onto solar panel framework
  7. Test every piece of equipment to ensure compatibility and functionality.
Additional revisions to these outlines will include finer details and steps to complete task along with members responsible for each task.

WEEK 10/12 to 10/18

  • This week we measured both current and voltage of the bogie.
  • We are still working for a letter template for sponsorship.
  • We got familiarized with the specification of the charging controller SKYRC IMAX B6AC V2, and are attempting to start calculations.

Week of 9/21/16

Figure out what to present
Solidworks
Inventory list update

Wednesday, September 14, 2016

Results of Wednesday Meet

To Do List

  • Get Solidworks working for all team members
  • Inventory of equipment
  • Finish reviewing prior year’s design, Solidworks design files
  • Determine equipment to carry over versus dispose of
  • Calculation of current solar panels
  • Update Gant chart per Eric's request

Week 9/7 - 9/14

This week our team consulted a previous student that has previously worked on the project last year. He advised us that is not efficient to use actuators to follow the sun, and this made us starting thinking about how to change the mounting for the solar panel. We concluded that the mounting will have a disk with multiple different perforations at different angles. We also decided to make make the mounting mechanism out of metal. We also decided to use different kind of batteries.
